Kidney stones in Tijuana: remove the stone, prevent the next one

One in ten people will have a kidney stone in their lifetime, and half of them will have another if nothing changes. We manage the colic, clear the stone—by laser, without incisions, when surgery is needed—and find out why it formed.

What we treat

Urinary stones form in the kidney or anywhere along the urinary tract when minerals build up and stick together. Low fluid intake, excess salt and animal protein, some metabolic conditions and family history all play a part.

Not every stone needs surgery. Small ones usually pass on their own with medication and fluids; those that do not move, cause uncontrolled pain, block the kidney or come with fever need to be dealt with. Endourology does it through the natural passages, with slim scopes and laser energy.

FAQ

Common questions

Do all kidney stones need surgery?

No. Many stones of a few millimeters pass on their own within days or weeks with medication. Surgery is for stones that do not progress, cause unrelenting pain, obstruction or infection, or are too large to pass.

I have colic and a fever. Can I wait?

No. Colic pain with fever or chills can mean an obstructed, infected kidney and is an emergency: go to an emergency department right away.

How can I keep stones from coming back?

What helps most is drinking enough to keep urine pale through the day, going easy on salt and animal protein, and not cutting dietary calcium without medical advice. With stone and urine analysis the advice becomes specific to you.
